Today we discussed bravery and courage, and we talked a lot about the homework assignment for tonight. Then we looked at character and plot, with multiple examples and a practice reading. Finally, we began introducing the spelling words for week 2.

Today we talked about kayaks and CPR in preparation for our first reading, The Red Kayak.
I gave a short writing assignment so I can begin to get a sense of the students writing abilities. It doesn't have to be long. Five sentences would be fine. I handed out bubble books and I would like to see it there.

Hi everyone!
My name is Mr. Gaines and I will be the 5a2 teacher, along with the homeroom teacher for 503 this year. It's great to see so many familiar faces who have grown up so much since I first met them four years ago. I'm excited to have the chance to spend this year learning and growing. I am looking forward to having a great year together.
